Stetson's Birth Story

On Tuesday, March 5, I was feeling really sick, like can't get out of bed sick. The whole time I was trying to figure out what might be wrong. It almost felt like I had eaten something bad and just had a stomach ache and was nautious. I kept second guessing myself for a number of reasons. 1) I hadn't eaten anything that Brett or Brooklyn hadn't in the last 24 hours and they felt fine. 2) It felt like my stomach hurt, but I wasn't sure if it was my stomach because I felt it in weird parts of my tummy who knows where my stomach was at this point, probably shoved some other place by the growing baby :) 3) What if this was a sign that something was wrong with the baby....always worrying about something.
I made it through the day and by that evening I was feeling contractions that weren't painful but tight. So, being the worrier that I am, I told Brett, maybe we should just go and get me checked out - just in case. We dropped Brooklyn off at Brett's parents and went up to labor and delivery.
Long story short I was dialated to a 2-1/2 and was contracting. They hooked me up to an IV, because I was dehydrated, probably because I couldn't eat/drink anything all day. After about 2 hours I wasn't progressing so they shot me with Turbutaline smooth muscle relaxer. Luckily after a few days I was feeling much better.
Then on Saturday, March 9th, I got out of bed early in the morning because I was so uncomfortable and couldn't sleep. I got in the shower, Brett went to the Home & Garden show with his brother, Brooklyn and I had breakfast then I decided to do a bunch of baking for various things that I have been wanting to do made banana bread with our ripe bananas, made a cupcake treat for some ladies in the ward who were having birthdays, and made peasnut butter bars to take around to all of my Bear Scouts along with a flyer. Then by around 11:30am I got the kitchen cleaned up and that is when I thought I felt a trickle of water. I sort of brushed it off, thinking that it probably wasn't anything until it continued. At this point I still wasn't 100% convinced that it was my water leaking because with Brooklyn it was a GUSH. I called Brett who was just getting to Schills to go shopping and gave him a heads up. I figured I better get myself ready, mine and Brooklyn's bags packed, and get some things organized for Brett to finish if I were to stay at the hospital. Brett got home around 1:00 and by this time I was starting to feel my contractions more. We dropped Brooklyn off at his parents again and headed towards the hospital. Before this whole ordeal came up our plan was to go see my brother and his wife's new house. I told Brett that we might as well stop anyway since it was on the way and that we might as well waste time so we didn't have to wait at the hospital as long :) We stayed for about 5 minutes, my contractions were coming every 6 minutes and I wasn't able to walk throught them so Brett was starting to worry so we left to go to the hospital. We got there around 3:00. I was dialated to a 3-1/2. My water was starting to come more and faster and my contractions were now painful!! After sitting in the triag area for a while while they got some information, checked how far I was dialated, gave me an iv, etc. they put me in a room and I immediatly got my epidural it was 4:15 by this time. At 4:45 they put me on Pitosin which I did ot have with Brooklyn and totally didn't need with this one, his heart rate was better before they put me on it and after they took me off anyway, so I was kind of bugged that they put me on it. At 4:30 I was dialated to a 4 and the nurse told me that if I felt any pressure down there to call her back in. Well, about 20 minutes later I told Brett that something felt really really weird and that there was a lot of pressure. The nurse came in and I was at a 10 and the baby was on his way out!!! Needless to say they took me off Pitosin and told me to hold that baby in till my Dr. got there. He finally got there, I did a few big pushes and some short small ones, at his request, which really turned out to be a laugh because the feeling of the baby coming down was SO bizarre, I couldn't feel Brooklyn like I could feel him. My doctor joked that he had never had a patient laugh out their baby!
Our little man who was named later was born at 6:51 pm, weighed 6 lbs 7 oz and was 20 inches long.
I instantly fell in love with every little bit of him!!
My mom went to get my dad and Chase and Taylor all came in. They moved me to a different room and Brett's parents came up. Brett had to go watch Brooklyn in the waiting area because they weren't allowing children under the age of 14 on the floor because of flu season - I was so sad that I wasn't able to see her and that she couldn't meet her brother right away.
Brett stayed with me during the days and went home at night to get some sleep. We had a few visitors over the next couple of days, I enjoyed my time with Stetson and enjoyed the meal in bed!!! On Monday afternoon Brett dropped Brooklyn off at Taylors and came to pick me up. We went home and she was so excited to hold her new little brother.
I feel VERY lucky that I have such easy deliveries and could feel more blessed to have to beautiful, healthy children and an amazing husband.
